Important vegetable crop in India. Has its origins in Anatolia and Armenia. It has vitamin A and C, contains about 90% water and 9% carbohydrates.
18-30 degrees celsius is required. Rainfall of 50-75 mm is needed for growing muskmelons.
Deep, fertile and well-drained soil is needed to grow muskmelons. pH levels of 6-7 is ideal.
Hara Mahdu, Punjab Sunehri, Punjab Hybrid, MH-51, MH-27 are some varieties of muskmelon.
Plough the land and bring to fine tilth before planting the cultivator.
Harvest is ideally done when the fruits turn yellow.
