Southeast Asia is known for its exotic fruits. It's also common at Asian grocery stores in the United States. Some are bushy and fuchsia in colour, while others have dazzling white flesh. They're also delicious and lovely.
The fruit of the rambutan is also known as "chôm chôm," which equates to "messy hair" in Vietnamese. This gorgeous fruit has a lychee-like flavour and texture, with a soft and juicy pale inside.
The durian fruit has a distinct strong scent that some people find irresistible. If you want to enjoy durian in a different way, it's wonderful in desserts like durian ice cream.
Mangosteens have a flavour that is both acidic and sweet. The snow-white flesh must be pushed through the stiff outer peel, but the flavour is well worth the effort.
With its translucent and juicy inside, the longan is similar to the lychee. It blooms in grape-like clusters, so you're supposed to eat an entire bunch at once.
