Custard apple is a tropical fruit that has a sweet and creamy pulp. It is also known as sitaphal, sugar apple, or cherimoya.
Some popular varieties of Custard apple in our country are NMK-01, Arka Neelanchal Vikram, Balanagar, Anona-2, Arka Sahan, and Washington.
Custard apple can be grown from seeds or cuttings. It prefers a warm and humid climate with well-drained soil. It needs regular watering and fertilizing to produce high yields.
Custard apple needs protection from pests and diseases such as mealybugs, scale insects, anthracnose, and fruit rot. It also needs pruning and thinning to improve air circulation and fruit quality.
A yellowish-green colour and soft skin are indicators of a custard apple maturing. Harvest them exactly at this time to not let them taste bitter, then keep them at room temperature for up to a week or in the refrigerator for longer.
Cut it open and scoop out the pulp with a spoon to consume it raw. You can also put it in a blender with milk and sugar to have yummy custard milk!
