Clove is an evergreen tree's scented dried flower bud. Cloves are part of the Myrtaceae family. It is native to India and Indonesia. Clove is also popular in domestic as well as overseas markets.
Clove has several health benefits, including the ability to promote digestion, relieve upper respiratory infections, lower inflammation, and be used for healing bruises and scrapes.
Grambu in Malayalam, Lavangam in Telugu, Lavanga in Kannada, Laung in Hindi, and Marathi Moggu in Marathi are the most common Indian names for clove.
Cloves grow particularly well in warm, humid tropical climates with annual rainfall ranging from 150 to 250 cm. It grows well from sea level to 800-900 metres in altitude. It also enjoys partial shade.
Cloves thrive best in rich loamy soils in the rainy tropics, which are suitable for commercial clove tree production. Cloves can also be cultivated on heavier red soils, but they demand good drainage to produce a higher yield.
Watering is required during the first three to four years of clove growing. To save the clove plantation in its early stages, use pot water. Adult plants should be watered to improve their quality.
