Sonalika Eyes Global Markets with Rs 1,000 Crore Investment in Electric Mobility

India's largest tractor exporter, Sonalika, is investing Rs 1,000 crore to produce electric tractors and quadricycles. This move will modernize the entire long-term diesel-dependent world of agricultural machinery.

Shifting to Electric Tractors for a Greener Future

Sonalika tractor focuses on producing electric tractors that will save farmers money and decrease pollution. The tractors will reduce fuel costs and be a cleaner alternative to diesel tractors.“Within farm equipment, we want to move towards electrification and keep building on it. It does not matter if it is a five-year story or a ten-year story. We are committed to it,” said Raman Mittal, Joint Managing Director of Sonalika Group.

These electric tractors are expected to be launched within the next two years. The initial markets being targeted will be international. Sonalika is also working on electric quadricycles that would provide eco-friendly transport solutions in cities.

Electric Tractors: Cost Savings and Better Performance for Farmers

The switch from diesel to electric tractors is not just about reducing pollution. Electric tractors can save Indian farmers money and boost productivity. One key advantage is the instant torque electric engines provide, which diesel tractors can’t match. “An electric vehicle is perfect for tractors,” said Raman Mittal

He also explained that tractors need strong power from the start, and electric technology delivers this well. He also mentioned that Sonalika is in the "advanced stages" of developing these electric tractors.

Expanding into Urban Mobility

Sonalika's ambitions don't seem to be stopping there: the company aims to not only expand into more farming but also venture into electric quadricycles-a, a sustainable urban transportation solution. This marks a huge shift for Sonalika's business, expanding from agriculture to urban mobility.

Sonalika already has a market share of 13.5% of tractors in India and exports to over 140 countries. It has modern manufacturing units in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, equipped with the latest machinery to produce electric vehicles (EVs). These facilities also manufacture parts and provide full service to their existing clients.

Sonalika aims to lead the charge in sustainable farming and transport, offering long-term benefits for both farmers and city users alike.
