John Deere Exports Made-in-India Tractors to US, Japan, Germany & Parts of Europe

John Deere, a leading tractor brand during the Covid-19 pandemic, shifted a line to manufacture the 5M range of its high-end, high Hp John Deere tractors in India. This strategic move was taken to leverage India's quality manufacturing and supply base.

John Deere India had recently exported fully-built, high-end tractors from its Indian plant to the US, Japan, Germany & other parts of Europe.

Managing director and country manager, India, John Deere, Mr Shailendra Jagtap, said —” the company exported tractors made in India to almost 110 countries. The 5M was our latest series that was exported from India. These series tractors are manufactured in the hp range between 75-130. This series was manufactured exclusively for the export markets. At present, the company exports around 35% of its total production.”

Adding to the statement, Mr Jagtap said — “The company is not just exporting tractors, it’s also exporting electronic systems & other components from India.  Almost 80 Indian suppliers of John Deere India are putting up the work to be a part of advanced products being developed by Deere globally.”

The leading tractor OEM John Deere India is also developing products and is moreover providing engineering & IT support to global operations. This is all led by a 4,400-strong team situated across Bengaluru & Pune. 

Mukul Varshney, region 1 director (corporate affairs), John Deere, said the company would continue to invest and leverage manufacturing, talent and India’s supply chain to serve farmers in India and around the world, with growth expected in both the domestic and export markets.

About John Deere India

Deere India is a subsidiary of John Deere Singapore (an arm of Deere & Co). This unit has successfully completed 25 years of operations in India. Its headquarters are based out of Pune, with a plant at Sanaswadi near Pune. This Pune plant has the capacity to produce 72,000 tractors.

Moreover, they have another plant in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, with a production capacity of 60,000 units of the 5000 Series of tractors in India. This leading brand holds a 10% share of the Indian tractor market and has a customer base of 7,00,000 in India. The brand holds a leading position in India's 45 HP tractor and higher range category.

John Deere Sales 2023 & 2024

Tractor sales of John Deere India in FY23 are expected to be at 900,000 units and almost similar for FY24 as well. Managing Director & Country Manager of John Deere, however, said that this number would depend on the monsoon season.

New Avenue for John Deere

Recently, John Deere started a road construction company in India (a part of the global acquisition of the Wirtgen Group). This company’s factory is located in Pune.
