And thus, they changed the face of the pooja flower industry by showing that with the right amount of passion and purpose, even the oldest markets can do well in newer ways.

From Family Roots to Entrepreneurial Dreams

Growing up in a family deeply involved in floriculture, Rhea and Yeshoda Karuturi were surrounded by flowers from a young age. Their father’s journey, from starting a small rose farm in Ethiopia to managing the world’s largest rose farm, greatly influenced them. This background set the stage for their venture into the flower industry.
Sisters were meant to follow in their father’s footsteps in the flower business. But they wanted to do something different. They saw a big gap in the market for pooja flowers, which many people needed but struggled to find fresh.
Their journey started with a business called Rose Bazaar in 2019. By 2020, they renamed it Hoovu Fresh. Their drive came from seeing their mother’s daily challenge of finding fresh pooja flowers—a problem many Indian families face.
Hoovu Fresh was born from this need. The sisters wanted to offer high-quality, fresh flowers for pooja, changing a traditional market that hadn’t seen much innovation. Their hard work paid off, and Hoovu Fresh gained major recognition for making a real difference.

The pooja flower market in India has always been big, but little has changed in how flowers are sold for religious rituals. Hoovu Fresh saw an opportunity to improve things by developing a new supply chain that keeps flowers fresher for longer. They are flowers that usually remain fresh for only days, but Hoovu Fresh knows ways of keeping them fresh even up to 15 days.

Fresh flowers are not just for looks; they carry a lot of emotion,” said Yoshida from Hoovu Fresh. “Offering bad flowers to God is unacceptable.” This belief inspired their business plan. They make sure customers always receive the freshest flowers possible. In addition to flowers, Hoovu Fresh has also added other pooja items like dhoop cones and incense sticks (agarbattis) to their range.

Hoovu Fresh products are available in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. They are also available on BigBasket, Amazon Fresh, Swiggy Instamart, JioMart, and more. They have basically revolutionized the selling of pooja flowers to customers most conveniently and freshly across the country.

Empowering Farmers and Cutting Waste

Hoovu Fresh’s success goes beyond delivering fresh flowers for religious rituals. They are making a real difference for farmers who grow these flowers. In the past, pooja flower farmers struggled with high wastage rates and low returns because of middlemen. 

In the pooja industry, the average wastage is 40-60 per cent,” says Yeshoda, one of the founders. She further added, “That means more than half the flowers grown are wasted, which is shocking, especially when you think about the hard work that goes into growing them.

Hoovu Fresh changed this by cutting out middlemen and paying farmers fair prices for their flowers. As a result, wastage has dropped dramatically, from 40-60 per cent to just 3 per cent. They also make sure every part of the flower is used, creating incense and other products from what would have been thrown away.

This innovative approach not only helps farmers earn more but also promotes sustainability, making Hoovu Fresh a game-changer in the pooja flower market.

A National Success Story with ₹1 Crore Funding on Shark Tank India

Despite launching right before the COVID-19 pandemic, Hoovu Fresh managed not just to survive but to thrive. As more people shifted to online shopping, the demand for fresh pooja flowers and related products soared. Today, Hoovu Fresh processes over 150,000 orders every month across major cities in India, earning crores in turnover.

A major turning point came when founders Rhea and Yeshoda appeared on “Shark Tank India”. Their pitch impressed investors Aman Gupta of boAt Lifestyle and Peyush Bansal of Lenskart.com, securing INR 10 million in funding. Reflecting on the experience, Yeshoda shares, “Being part of “Shark Tank” was a game-changer for us. It gave us national recognition and opened doors to new opportunities.

She further added, “The biggest growth happens when you push yourself out of your comfort zone.

From overcoming pandemic challenges to gaining national attention, Hoovu Fresh continues to revolutionize the pooja flower market, delivering freshness and supporting farmers while expanding its reach across the country.

The Karuturi sisters’ journey proves that blending traditional values with modern business ideas can lead to great success. Their advice to future entrepreneurs is simple: “Don’t be afraid to try new ideas. Focus on adding value to the people you work with, and always be willing to learn.” Their success has not only changed the pooja flower industry but also encouraged others to start their businesses.
